From Convict to Change Agent
Damon West's inspiring story of redemption, transformation, and hope on The 3 Wins Podcast
In Episode 39 of The 3 Wins Podcast, Damon West, a former Div. 1 quarterback turned convict, talks about the road he took from Div. 1 quarterback to drug addict and convict, to a best-selling author and keynote speaker.
His powerful story has inspired countless individuals through his bestselling book, "The Change Agent: How a Former College QB Sentenced to Life in Prison Transformed His World."
Damon's descent began after a career-ending injury. He got introduced to crystal meth. And within 18 months, he had given up everything—his job, car, family, and health. His addiction spiraled out of control, leading him into a criminal lifestyle, which ultimately led to a life sentence in prison.
But it was in prison that Damon found redemption. He had a spiritual awakening and discovered the transformative power of "The Coffee Bean," a metaphor introduced to him by a fellow inmate whose simple parable changed his life forever.
Since his release on parole in 2016, Damon has dedicated his life to sharing his story, spreading hope, and helping others rise from their darkest moments. 👇

Here are 10 actionable tips inspired by the episode:
Find your core identity: Understand that your self-worth is not tied to external factors such as your job or social status. Cultivate an internal sense of self that is not dependent on outside forces.
Be aware of addiction triggers: Learn to recognize the patterns that lead to addictive behaviors. If you find yourself starting down that path, intervene before it escalates.
Develop healthy coping mechanisms: Instead of succumbing to negative thoughts or obsessions, develop healthy coping mechanisms like exercise, meditation, or talking with friends.
Lean on your support network: Do not hesitate to reach out to others when you feel overwhelmed. Your support network is a lifeline in challenging times.
Internalize the Coffee Bean philosophy: Remember, you have the power to transform your surroundings. Like the coffee bean that changes the water in the pot, not the other way around, let the changes start within you.
Embrace faith: If you're spiritually inclined, lean on your faith during tough times. It can provide hope, purpose, and a sense of connection to something larger than yourself.
Practice humility and surrender: Learn to accept help and relinquish control when necessary. This can lead to profound personal growth and change.
Give back: Find ways to help others and make a positive impact on your community. Not only does this benefit those you help, but it also provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Recognize your intrinsic value: Remember, every person has intrinsic value, regardless of their past actions or current circumstances. This can help build self-esteem and promote a positive self-image.
Believe in redemption: Understand that it's never too late to change your life. No matter what you've done or what you're going through, redemption is always possible.
Applying these action items can help you overcome challenges and build a more fulfilling, purpose-driven life.
